Sunday's European Football Accumulator Tips

Fixtures for: Sunday 11th May

Verona v Lecce

Serie A

14:00

Under 1.5 Verona Goals

Although it looks like Verona’s 32 points will be enough to keep them up, this achievement is almost wholly thanks to their defence, which has managed to compensate for a severe deficit in attack. Verona’s average of just 0.86 goals per game ranks amongst the league’s worst, and falls even further to just 0.74 when considering only their home matches. Not once in their last 16 Serie A matches have Verona found the back of the net on two or more occasions.

Lecce’s issues have been pretty similar, with their defence maintaining a fair record despite their future in Serie A hanging in the balance. Lecce have been breached twice in just four of their previous 13 league clashes, most recently restricting Napoli and Atalanta to one goal apiece. Over the course of the entire season, a record of 1.53 goals conceded per away match indicates they could be good value here.

The reverse fixture saw Lecce keep a clean sheet against Verona, who managed just 0.3 xG, although this was no doubt influenced by Verona going down to 10 men just before half-time, and then nine in the 82nd minute.

Leverkusen v Dortmund

Bundesliga

14:30

Both Teams to Score

While the hosts no longer have silverware to fight for, there's pride but more so a rare head-to-head feat still very much on the line. For the visitors, the task is clear; win, or risk missing out on Champions League football next season.

Leverkusen gave up their Bundesliga crown last weekend after a 2-2 draw with Freiburg confirmed Bayern Munich as champions once again. With second place secured, their remaining motivation stems from a potential rare double over Dortmund, something they haven’t achieved since the 2006/07 season. Their ability to score at the BayArena is well stated, averaging 2.13 goals per game in the league. They enter this match off the back of seven league matches unbeaten (W4, D3).

This day of the week proves a strong omen for Die Werkself, they have gone 27 matches without defeat on a Sunday. Nonetheless, they’ve looked somewhat vulnerable defensively, conceding an average of 1.13 goals per home game and keeping a clean sheet in just 31% of their league outings at the BayArena.

That defensive inconsistency offers Dortmund a clear path. One point adrift of the top four heading into the weekend, Dortmund arrive under pressure, knowing that anything short of victory could prove fatal to their Champions League hopes. Fortunately, they’ve found attacking rhythm away from home, scoring two or more goals in four of their last five Bundesliga away games.

But defensive fragility continues to be their undoing as they’re shipping 1.88 goals per away match and have recorded just one clean sheet in their last eight away games across all competitions, which was against St. Pauli, the league’s weakest attack (0.63 home goals per game). Against this Leverkusen side, a shutout looks highly unlikely. The reverse fixture was a thrilling 3-2 win for Leverkusen, and each of the last three head-to-head meetings has delivered goals at both ends.

Barcelona v Real Madrid

La Liga

15:15

Both Teams to Score

Just four points separate Barcelona and Real Madrid as the La Liga season nears its conclusion, and both sides are hitting top form at the perfect time, each boasting four consecutive league wins. This fixture could prove pivotal in the title race, and with so much on the line, expect a high-stakes, high-intensity battle.

The two Spanish giants recently clashed in the Copa del Rey final, where a thrilling contest ended 2-2 in regular time before Jules Koundé netted the winner in extra time to hand Barcelona the trophy.

These two powerhouses consistently produce fireworks when they meet, with both teams scoring in six of their last seven competitive matchups. With attacking talent on both sides and the title potentially hanging in the balance, this El Clásico is set to be another dramatic chapter in their historic rivalry - one that could define the season for either team.

Torino v Inter Milan

Serie A

17:00

Torino (+2) Handicap

Following Inter’s dramatic 7-6 aggregate win over Barcelona in the Champions League, some are suggesting they may rotate their squad to prevent any further injuries to the starting 11. They named 10 new faces in their league clash with Verona following the first leg. Still, regardless, we’re unlikely to see either Lautaro Martinez or Thuram, both of whom were playing semi-fit and on painkillers against Barcelona.

That aside, this has been a very profitable market in Inter’s matches this season, coming home in 11 of their last 12 games across all competitions, in addition to a strong record going further back too.

Torino very rarely lose by a 2+ goal margin, which is primarily explained by the fact that their games have averaged just 2.26 goals scored - the 3rd fewest of any side in Serie A. This figure falls even further to 1.82 when Torino are at home, where they have more influence over how play unfolds. Since the start of the season, Torino have played 37 games and finished within two goals of their opponents in 34, including the reverse fixture at the San Siro.

On that occasion, Torino received a red card as early as the 20th minute. Despite the setback, they scored twice, eventually losing 3-2 but accumulating 1.61 xG, just 0.83 xG fewer than Inter, who retained 11 men throughout.

Athletic Bilbao v Alaves

La Liga

17:30

Over 1.5 Goals

Athletic Club have been in the top four since November, but their position is under threat from both Villarreal and Real Betis, who trail by three and four points, respectively. Real Sociedad have not been in the best of form, having recently been dumped out of the Europa League by Man United, losing 7-1 on aggregate. Athletic Club will return to the San Mames after a gruelling Thursday night game in Manchester, meaning fatigue could play a factor here.

Meanwhile, Alaves find themselves just three points clear of the drop zone, in desperate need of points as they seek survival. Recent improvement has provided some much needed relief, as Alaves have lost just one of their last five league games. Both sides still have plenty to play for as the season draws to a close, so will be desperate to secure three points here. Expect a few goals.
