Competition: National League Play-Offs

  • Oldham host FC Halifax National League play-off quarter finals. The winner goes on to play York City next Tuesday.

  • The Latics evens favourites for the game, with Halifax priced up at 27/10, quite the disparity with just three points separating the two teams.

  • The bookmakers are expecting a tight affair, with under 2.5 goals priced at 8/15, whilst over 2.5 is 7/5.

  • Oldham finished the season in 5th place, but have only won three of their last eight games. Halifax are in worse form, with three wins from their last eleven.

Oldham v Halifax Predictions and Best Bets

Oldham to win looks the best value here, given they defeated Halifax 2-0 at home just seven weeks ago.

Looking at players who could step up to the plate and score a winning goal, Oldham's captain Charlie Raglan has five this season from centre back and is available at 17/2 to score anytime.

Under 1.5 goals at 13/8 looks worth a stab given the tight nature of play-off games. The visitors rank 3rd bottom in the entire division for goals scored per 90 (1.09), and also the 5th-best defence (1.00 conceded per 90). If Halifax are to progress, a solid defensive shift is needed.

🔵 Oldham well set for the play-offs

Oldham may not be in the strongest form, but their play-off fate seems to have been inevitable for a long period.

In manager Mickey Mellon, they have a play-off specialist, with three victories to his name as a manager over this kind of format.

They won and drew against Halifax in the regular season. Mike Fondop is their top scorer with 16 goals, rested on final day in preparation for this game.

Mellon men’s home record reflect their overall spot in the table, with eleven home wins over the season.

Halifax tough to beat on the road

The Shaymen’s away form has been stronger than their home form this season, with the 3rd best record in the league. They only tasted defeat on the road five times, which is as good as any side.

Their away games saw fewer goals than all but two teams, so we can expect them to try and keep things tight.

Manager Chris Millington tasted defeat in the play-offs last season with Halifax, losing at the quarter final stage, but has led the club to a Wembley victory in the FA Trophy.
